Determining the Flavour Content of the Low-Energy Solar Neutrino Flux

چکیده
We study the sensitivity of the HELLAZ and Borexino solar neutrino experiments on discriminating the neutrino species νe, ν̄e, νμ,τ , ν̄μ,τ , and νs using the difference in the recoil electron kinetic energy spectra in elastic neutrino-electron scattering. We find that one can observe a non-vanishing νμ,τ component in the solar neutrino flux, especially when the νe survival probability is low. Also, if the data turn out to be consistent with νe ↔ νμ,τ oscillations, a ν̄e component can be excluded effectively.

Solving the Solar Neutrino Problem 2 Km Underground — the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory
The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) is capable of measuring simultaneously the flux of electron-type neutrinos and the total flux of all active flavours of neu-trinos originating from the Sun. A model-independent test of neutrino flavour transformation was performed by comparing these two measurements. Assuming an undistorted neutrino energy spectrum, this transformation has been definitivel...
متن کاملA Few Comments after the Charged Current Measurement at the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory
The comparison of the SNO charged current result with the solar neutrino signal measured by Super-Kamiokande has provided, for the first time, the evidence of a non electron flavour active neutrino component in the solar flux. We remark here that this evidence can be obtained in a model independent way, i.e. without any assumpion about solar models, about the energy dependence of the neutrino o...
متن کاملSolar Neutrinos
Present results and future measurements of solar neutrinos are discussed. The results to date indicate that solar electron neutrinos are changing to other active types and that transitions solely to sterile neutrinos are disfavored. The flux of 8 B solar neutrinos produced in the Sun, inferred assuming only active neutrino types, is found to be in very good agreement with solar model calculatio...
متن کاملSupersymmetric Seesaw without Singlet Neutrinos: Neutrino Masses and Lepton-Flavour Violation
We consider the supersymmetric seesaw mechanism induced by the exchange of heavy SU(2)W triplet states, rather than ‘right-handed’ neutrino singlets, to generate neutrino masses. We show that in this scenario the neutrino flavour structure tested at low-energy in the atmospheric and solar neutrino experiments is directly inherited from the neutrino Yukawa couplings to the triplets. This allows ...
متن کاملSolar neutrino analysis of Super-Kamiokande
Super-Kamiokande-IV data taking began in September of 2008, and with upgraded electronics and improvements to water system dynamics, calibration and analysis techniques, a clear solar neutrino signal could be extracted at recoil electron kinetic energies as low as 3.5 MeV. The SK-IV extracted solar neutrino flux between 3.5 and 19.5 MeV is found to be (2.36±0.02(stat.)±0.04(syst.))×106 /(cm2sec...
